Monstuh roundup

This week is a week of Roundups. I have been so useless at posting this year, so I'm doing everything at once, just think of it as spring cleaning, purging all the dregs out of my photo albums before I start the new year with some wizard new ideas.

Here are some monsters I made ages ago, for Sara. I think it was a wedding present, and the couple are called Anita and Peter, if I'm remembering right!

Complicated stripy top/zebra print scarf combo. She is drinking a glass of wine that I clumsily made out of felt.

I think Peter was supposed to look like a vampire monkey, hence the teeth and ears. Check out the beaded bubbles in the pint, I am so inventive!!! Maybe they're droplets of condensation since they're on the outside of the glass.

Lookee here, it's Sarah and Bondy's wedding monsters.

Sarah is an old fine art buddy of mine from back in the Hudd. I was excited to be part of her happy day in a most minor way.

He's got a star tattoo. I am so OBSERVANT!!! :)

Okay this is Kate and Matt, I made them for Ana. I think these might have been a wedding present too.

Apparently they both like to wear onesies, so the monsters are in onesies too. Here I decided to attempt crocheting the pint instead. Why my monsters drink so much, I'll never know.

Kate is from Florida and a fan of the Gators (American football! exotic). This is what their logo looks like.

This is my effort.

Similar!

Okay NEXT. I didn't do anything for months and have just had a flurry of activity before Christmas. First up this is Ann.

She was cute and fun to make. All sparkly shoes and nice colours. Check out her butterfly jumper.

Next up I made the whole family of Danielle, who runs Rubbish Revamped in Chorlton and makes loads of crafty bits out of recycled materials. This is Danielle and her husband Bruce, a runner and Leeds United fan.

Here is a photo Danielle sent me of her and Bruce with their Monc-sters

Their two sons Sam and Joe both support Man City so I gave them City shirts with their names on the back. Sam loves cooking and Joe is into his Blackberry.

Added a plastic blackberry bead to make the Blackberry more Blackberryish, but wondered afterwards if it might actually be a bunch of grapes? Never mind.

And this is one of their cats. I made two, but didn't take proper photos because I'm an idiot.

This is turning into such a mammoth post, I had no idea I had so many. Anyhoo last ones for now - this is Trudie and her dog Marty.

These ones were ace fun, I just love doing people with red hair. Do you like my new backdrop, it is an old A-Z of Birmingham.

Phew, well that'll do for now, I'm tired and monstered out. Hope you liked them. I got them all done to deadline! I'm SO PRODUCTIVE etc.

Well goodbye and happy new year again

bye, I love you xxx

sock roundup 2012

Hey guys

Sure soon enough I'll be able to show you all the monsters I've made in the run-up to Christmas, now that it's all over and it won't give the game away. Right now though I thought I'd show you all the socks I've made, because it's exciting and shutup.

First ones were the Longpigs socks, which you will find here. They look crap now that I've got the hang of it, but I still love them.

Second I made #mousebiro ones for Maddern for Christmas. If you follow the work of Salle Pierre Lamy you might know what the mouse biro thing is about, and I will discuss it in more detail later, but here is Maddern on Christmas day opening his pressies with his fancy new socks on.

As you will note, they look a bit insane and it is unlikely that they will ever get worn much. They took me FOUR DAYS to make, dude. but what's more Christmassy than novelty crap and simmering resentment?

MACRO FUNCTION:

a job well done.

Finally I made these socks over Christmas at the Maddern residence, it was pretty much all I did while I was there besides eat things and look at the telly. My mum asked for nice wool socks but she wanted ones that she could wear under normal shoes, not big chunky ones. So I used needles a size down and 4-ply wool, I found some in my stash that has actual wool content (gasp)

I like to call this colour scheme 'Metrolink'

I wouldn't necessarily have used yellow and grey together, but those were the colours I had in the yarn I needed and I think it actually looks nice. Funnily enough, I ran into my bro Gav on the train from Flint who said that the first time he went on a plane, the carrier was Lufthansa and he thought air travel was hugely glamorous. So he associates yellow and grey with luxury, the colours of pure luxury.

So there you go, I do have other socks on the go but they're not finished so I can't tell you. I'm a sock fiend!

Well goodbye, I hope you've all had fulfilling and beauteous Christmasses, and that you have wonderful new years and keep all your outlandish resolutions.

Buh bye xxx

Saturday, 10 December 2011

Oh, knitting.

Hello. I am writing a post because I am supposed to be doing interview prep, but it's Saturday night and you can't make me, you're not my real mum. Also, I haven't got anything else to do. Hooray, I'm really cool.

So it's nearly Christmas, oh boy. I have done two craft fairs in the past couple of weeks, and by 'done' I mean I have sat behind tables and occasionally smiled at people. I'm really good at that, I've been a receptionist for ages now which gives me the practice. I was supposed to take photos of my craft stalls, but they always look the same. I did the Chorlton Arts Festival one, at St Clements Church, and I did actually take some pictures but they're useless. Look.

Sigh. Here's some pairs of mittens I made.

Forgot to put the flash on.

I didn't even bother to take any photos at the craft fair I was at today, at the Zion Arts Centre in Hulme (there's no place like Hulme). It was really fun though, I met some lovely craftspeople and there was all sorts going on for the kiddies, like screenprinting t-shirts and general chucking paint about and making a nice mess. So instead I'm going to show you some gloves that I found at my mum's house. You ready?

These are gloves me and my sister used to wear as littluns, fascinating. I have taken these photos Facebook style in the mirror, because there was no one else there apart from my dad and he didn't seem very interested. I don't know why.

I like the second one from the left with his bleeding eye. I wish these fitted me.

Thumb:

Second: interesting design here, they have a miniature glove in the same colours, attached to the back of the glove by a string. Why? Also, in this (crap) photo you can see how my massive hand won't fit in the glove at all.

Third: the best glove/mitten I have ever seen. You couldn't do anything with these on, and why should you? You've got LIONS for hands!! I pretended that the lion was going to bite the cat's face, but he wasn't scared. My mum's cats are hardcore.

Right well, I have done that now, so I best get back to whatever I was supposed to be doing. Eating everyone's Christmas presents in my pyjamas. Bye! Happy Christmas if I don't see you before! Bye! xx

Stuff I Made Previously

Hey guys. Merry Christmastime, happy new year for tomorrow, whoop. Now it's past Christmas I suppose I can show you some of the monsters I made ages ago. Here they are:

This was a commission for Ruth, who wanted a family of monsters for her real family. I had a great time making these, and I wish I could have seen everyone opening their presents on Christmas day and seeing themselves! There is one missing actually, and I don't know who, because I finished them ages ago. Oh dear, never mind. Rest assured that it was amazing.

Then I made this monster for Alice. She is a beaut with super red hair and loads of sparkle.

Well, time is ticking and I am being slow. Time to make like a tree, and grow for hundreds of years before being chopped down for timber. I mean, I need to go. Happy new year everyone! Hope 2011 brings everything you ever dreamed and more, okay bye.

Chrimble Craft Fair-tastic

So I had a stall at the Chorlton Arts Festival Christmas Craft Market (or CAFCCM for short) at St Clements Church on Saturday. It was brilliant fun and I did pretty well! I had lots of visitors too. Thanks to everyone who came down to say hi!

This is my stall. It looks pretty much exactly like the stall I had in May, doesn't it? Except with a Christmas tree. The tree only had two legs so I cunningly leaned it against the wall. Clever.

Just going to show you a few pictures of things I made for the fair, some of which have now been sold. Okay?

Mr Christmas 'narna.

Apple fellow.

This is Corn On The Cob. Hard to tell from the photo.

Christmas hot dawg.

Carrot. Something you might actually eat at Christmas, finally.

Couple of the mini monsters I made. I love these, they are stupid.

This one is Mister Farty Christmas. He has a white beard and everything.

This is a pair of fingerless gloves that I made without a pattern or anything, I just made 'em up as I went along. Can you tell? I really liked them though and so did somebody else because they bought them. Hooray!

Do you like my doctored business cards which had the wrong URL on them? Flawless. I am a DIY WIZARD.

Here are John and Laura having just bought some winter woollies off me. I didn't make John's hat. I made the gloves and Laura's hat which you can't actually see. But rest assured, it's very pretty.

That's like, all the time we have for now. Hope you enjoyed my snaps. Ooh! I will be doing TWO more craft fairs in the same weekend. The first one is on the 11th December at the Nip and Tipple, Upper Chorlton Road, Chorlton, Manchester, I-Don't-Know-The-Postcode. That should be fun and sparkly and magical. I'm sure there will be mulled wine and other treats, there normally is at these things. The second one will be at St Wilfred's Enterprise Centre in Hulme on the 12th. Here is a link. More opportunities to purchase nice things for you there! I think you should come to both of them.

Right bye!
